Last week, All Things Disc Golf talked to 2012 PDGA Men’s Open World Champion Paul McBeth to get his thoughts on his title. Now, we turn our attention to the amateur ranks of the PDGA World Championships. Coming from behind to win the 2012 PDGA Amateur Advanced World Championship was Spencer Wilken. Wilken, 20 years old from Danvers, Illinois, made his move late in the week to win the title by seven strokes.
All Things Disc Golf: How does it feel to have the title of “World Champion” next to your name?
Spencer Wilken: To tell the truth, it still hasn’t quite set in fully. It’s nice to have, but I’ve yet to grasped the magnitude of it.
ATDG: You didn’t hit lead card until much later in the week. Did the pressure of not playing on the top card help you? Or, would you have liked to play at the top earlier in the week?
