Newsletter E-mail List is no more… New Mo’ Better E-mail Update Feature Takes Its Place…

Subscribe Via E-mailIt is no great secret that we rely on a lot of FREE applications and services to keep the Disc Golf coming at you…  Unfortunately our old E-mail Newsletter Plug-in is no longer supported.  So for safety and security reasons we are going to let it go…

In its place we have a mo’ better e-mail subscription available so you don’t miss a post from on  the disc golf centric websites that wants to keep you informed of the new and the now that is going on in disc golf.

Please take the time to subscribe to the service by entering your email over on the sidebar.  If you were signed up for the ol’ newsletter (Over 700 of you were), we are not going to automatically sign you up for the email updates because it is a completely different animal – we ask you to sign yourself up again.

We hope to you take advantage of this new service and as always…  Throw Well,  trotter | TALKdg

In Honor Of Frisbee – Please Help Us Help This Teacher Make A Difference…

Classroom PhotoHelp us help this teacher share the passion of disc sports.  We have nine days to help this teacher make her sponsorship goal of $1,046.20.  She has raised $50.00 to date and there are only 9 days left…  Share your love of the game, share the passion of disc golf with the next generation…

DonorsChoose.org is the real deal – this money will make it to this teacher and the money will be spent on discs and lids.  Your $10.00 or more could make a difference…

Please give and share this with your disc golf and ultimate friends.

We don’t ask for much here at the ol’ TALKdg… but we sure would appreciate it if you could support this teacher and her efforts to share the great sports of Disc Golf and Ultimate with her students.

My Students: The empty pie plates of the Frisbee Baking Company, prototypes for the modern day Frisbee developed by Morrison have evolved tremendously, but even plastic versions falter. Students are challenged by the design of the traditional Frisbee and envy those with advanced design.

My students are diverse in needs in regards to physical education. There are very gifted athletes, those who solely get their activity through my P.E. classes, and many students that have special needs. They are competitive, and eager to learn about sport. They embrace the ultimate Frisbee/disc golf unit mainly because it is different and many had not practiced the sport. It put them on a level playing field where I witnessed even the most uncoordinated extremely proud of her success. My students are teens who still love to play, and are still learning lessons about their ever changing capabilities, and working toward respect and social responsibility. These students vary in their ability to afford athletics outside of school, so in close, they would be extremely appreciative and grateful for new materials.

My Project: My students will be able to actively participate in a disc golf/ultimate Frisbee unit where they will learn overhand, underhand, and side arm throwing of an aerodynamic disc. Having these lessons allows the teaching of both offensive and defensive strategies, also they help students to match personal preferences in their physical activities that hopefully will remain a part of their lives. Lastly, the lessons will help them to accept responsibility for their individual improvement especially in regards to keeping track of their scores for disc golf. They will specifically learn in ultimate frisbee that there is no physical contact and that the teams playing are the only “referees” of the games. This will help them to negotiate rules and hold them accountable for the rules of the game. Ultimately, it will allow them a fun cardiovascular workout in a non traditional sport.

The obesity rate in our country is staggering, and traditional sports are not always the right fit for all students. The opportunity for students to realize their potential in ultimate Frisbee or the calories they can burn on a nearby disc golf course could be the positive difference in a student’s life. When a project of this type is funded in the area of physical education, it is telling the students that their health and well being is the key to staying balanced academically and socially. « hide

My students need frisbee discs to develop coordination in overhand, underhand and sidearm throwing while learning strategy and teamwork in both ultimate frisbee and disc golf.

Threw a DGA Breaker Today… Not Exactly a Disc Review But Nonetheless:

So a friend of mine was out in California and stopped by the DGA shop and they gave him a handful of the new DGA Breakers while he was there.  One of them ended up in my bag today…  It didn’t do much for my drives, I’m kidding, but what a great approach disc.

What was once one of the gaping holes in the DGA line-up may very well become one of the strongest offerings from the DGA stable – it’s that good.

I cannot express to you enough how comfortable the handle of this disc is and how consistent its flight was during today’s round with a mix of calm conditions, steady sustained winds and the occasional gust that would sneak up on us as we played.

Make sure you try to throw one of these this season…  End of pseudo review – I liked it and I am looking for more.

If you are looking for more detailed information or the insights of a pro player, I suggest watching this little video put together by Terry Miller with DGA sponsored pro John Baldwin:

Even more info can be found over at the DGA website.

Toot Your Own Horn… Use the Disc Golf Virtual Bulletin Board – TALKdg

    Toot Your Own Horn

TALKdg exists so disc golfers can come to one place and find relevant and recent disc golf news hassle free.

We aren’t gonna interview you… we aren’t gonna write a story about you… we are gonna open up our house and hope you make yourself comfortable – a readership time share, if you will.

Disc Golf Bloggers… we are here for you – We want to share what you are doing… For selfish reasons, mostly, we love to read disc golf blogs ourselves. Together let’s make it easier for folks to find you. Put up a new post at your own blog and leave a snippet and a link back to your site here. We want disc golf blogs to succeed so they are there for us to read

So you and your disc golf club took the time to create a fundraiser disc for a new course or you started and are running an online store or you make the best damn disc dyes on the planet…  you are welcome to promote your fundraiser disc here, let’s get that course built together one sweet hotstamp at a time.

Run a Brick & Mortar – we surely want to share your story – An investment like that needs to be nurtured and who is better to tell your story than you?

Talking about investments? Your company is introducing a new disc – why not share it your own words… Introduce it to marketplace in your own words, make your own first impression.

Say you are a travelling pro and want to keep people up to date as to what you are doing on tour – or maybe – you are looking for a place to crash, so you can afford to stay on the road for a couple of more tourneys. We are here for you…

Maybe you are a disc golf promoter or tourney director and there was a killer final nine at your last event… paint us a picture, throw in some snapshots or even better embed some video.  Make us all feel like we there right along with you – maybe more of us will want to be there at the next event right along side you experiencing that final 90 foot run for the win…

YOU love disc golf pictures – WE love disc golf pictures – YOU share disc golf pictures – WE share disc golf pictures – … YOU take GOOD disc golf pictures – WE host GOOD disc golf pictures…

It kind of works like that… People don’t want War and Peace (hardly every) – they want that instant reminder of why they love disc golf – If you are an artist or photographer, we welcome you to showcase your talent here… We know we want to see what you are doing in the medium and we are sure others do too.

A podcast?  A youtube channel? An internet channel?

Anyone with a disc golf centric website is welcome to post a snippet and a link back to their own website. There are many folks who want to stay up to date on disc golf and really are interested in what you are doing for their shared passion of disc golf.

Let’s make it easy for them to find out the latest… we are game if you are.

We can get you set up and get you contributing – it’s pretty darn easy. You can reach out to us here at the site. On email at trotter@talkdiscgolf.com. On twitter at @trotter_talkdg. Or on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/TALKdg

Let people know about your efforts all things disc golf and let them know here.

    Thanks and Throw Well,

Disc Golf Blogs – Are They Viable?

As the new year starts, we decided to start moving all of our TALKdg Link List urls over to our other site http://www.finddg.com – we kind of saw it as a duplication of purpose.

When we started moving over all of the Disc Golf Blogs one thing became very apparent very fast…  Disc Golf Blogs sure don’t last very long.  Of the 24 Disc Golf Blogs that were listed in our blog roll,  Only 9 are still being updated.  And when we say updated we mean in the last 9 months, there are some confused souls that think there is an off season for disc golf…

We’d love to add more Disc Golf Blogs to http://www.finddg.com but we have not been very successful in finding them on our own – so we are looking for some help.  Help.

MUSIC + DISC GOLF = MUSICdg – TIGER TANK UPDATE…

A few months back we did a little feature post on Tiger Tank, a band whose drummer happens to be the guy that owns Paragon Disc Golf.  Well they’ve done a few more shows and have printed up some band shirts…  You like band shirts, right?  Anyways… give a listen, buy a shirt and get back on the courses.

Samples from a few of the new tracks…

Tiger Tank can be followed on facebook.

Miles Parkhill, Paragon Disc Golf, on drums…

Paragon Disc Golf can be followed on facebook.

With the interest that was generated from folks checking out Tiger Tank when they found out members were disc golfers… we decided to reach out and look for more bands who partake in the passion of disc golf… You in a band? You want us to feature your latest tracks? Reach out to trotter@talkdiscgolf.com with the particulars… and let’s see if we can’t get you featured here on TALKdg so folks can give you a listen…

Seriously, who can’t use some good tunes on the course?

OPEN LETTER TO DISC GOLF PROS…

First off, we hope you had a successful 2012 season and surpassed the personal goals you set for yourself.

Mike Solt (MrDiscGolf from PA) and I started playing around with TALKdg a few years ago.  We kept adding things to it with Guest Writers, Forums, RSS Captures, Disc Reviews, Coupon/Discount codes… basically all kinds of stuff.  It did everything but none of it well.  It was bulky and not user friendly.

So we decided to revamp it with the goal of keeping it simple.  Then it hit us.  It’s all out there already – why make more of it?  Let’s set the site up so when people added something new on their own websites they have a place to announce to readers, “I put something new up come read it.”

TALKdg is built on a platform specifically designed for group blogs with multiple Authors and Contributors.

We are hoping pros like yourself will want to participate knowing that you won’t have the pressure to have to post all the time.  Let’s face it,  almost every traveling pro has tried to start a disc golf blog.  They all pretty much start off gangbusters and then after a short-while the posts become  more sporadic and then the updates stop.

Then in the off-season the process of restarting a blog begins again.

With TALKdg there is no pressure to produce all the time to keep readership.  The readers are being drawn to what we call the “Hub” where there will always be new content.  When a Contributor has something to add they jump in.  If they don’t have anything to add, there will be a readership waiting for when they do.

New posts on TALKdg will automatically migrate to the TALKdg Facebook Page and TWITTER Handle further spreading the word that you have added something disc golf related to the web.  Heck, we even send it out to TUMBLR for you.

So you could post an intro or summary of something you posted over at your own site or say a guest post at RattlingChains.com with a link to go read more.  Or if you wanted to announce a clinic you are putting on while on tour or that you have added two signed discs on Ebay – anything is a welcomed update at TALKdg.com as long as it is disc golf related.

Content is King.  All we would have to do to get you started is have you register at the website, we then go in and change your permissions to “Contributor.”  That gives you posting rights.  You put a post together, it’s WordPress, so when you are done making changes to it you would mark the status to “Pending,”  soon after we go in and “Publish” it and it’s up.

You’d probably also like to take advantage of our Link List.  Just fill out the form for each website you want us to include on our Link List – It’s FREE for a text link.   So if you want to be set up as a contributor just reach out to us at trotter@talkdiscgolf.com and we get you squared away.

Obviously we would appreciate you help getting the word out about TALKdg.com.

    Thanks and Throw Well,
