Innova’s Website and the Roc…

I am a big fan of the Innova Official Website – topnotch…
And my day started with a little venture over to the site and I saw something that just doesn’t seem right. Why would Innova sell itself short on one of the bestest discs ever made? The site lists all Rocs together – as though they are the same…
Innova recognized the nuances of varying molds and plastics in the way it handled the putt and approach discs at the website and then just dumped all the Rocs together.
There are 7 Speed 2 Putt and Approach discs listed and 6 of them are variations of the Aviar. The seventh is the Rhyno – if you are curious.
7 different web pages to present you, the prospective disc buyer, all the variations of the Aviar – a disc most disc golfers will pitch or spin towards the basket from within the last 25 feet.
But that level of break-out doesn’t get applied to Rocs. The Rocs end up getting listed as The Roc - all together and giving them all the same flight description. This does Innova a disservice – why short change Rocs?
Aviars maybe Innova’s best selling disc, but the Rocs…

Rocs get turned into patches… you don’t see little Aviars being sewn and ironed on to everything… (I did a little Google search to try and find a picture of an “Aviar” and all I found was pictures of putters and chickens… says much.)
When discussing Rocs it should always be plural – it should be a rule. There is no one Roc.
You could fill an entire Flight Chart with the various lines of produced by the different mold and plastic combinations that make up the species Roc.
Would you really consider the flight characteristics of a Star San Marino Roc the same as a KC Pro Roc? Nope, different mold, different plastic, different flight characteristics – and for the record, a different disc altogether.
Innova presents this arsenal of line shapers as monolithic – the Roc - one. Personally, I have an affinity for Flat Tops and they don’t even make the cut on the website…
Here is to hoping that Innova recognizes the very mystique of the Roc that makes many Roc enthusiasts carry so many Rocs in their bags…
We could banter for days about the quests folks have ventured out into the great unknowns for the pursuit of the Holy 10x’s…
Listening to some of my friends talk about, “I use this Roc for slight turnovers, I use this Roc for low ceiling and I use this Roc for the big sweeping hyzer line…” Well, it just doesn’t sit well with, “If you’re not sure what disc to throw, choose the Roc; just like most pros.”
Like there is only one Roc? Nah, there are Rocs and they are different and they are nuanced and they are beautiful.
