This week we talk to Miles Parkhill, from Paragon, Marie Fry, from the BCDGA about their upcoming women’s clinics, and of course the inbounds disc golf, disc review.
We’ve had a HUGE response to the to the initial podcast that was released last week. Over 200 hits in a week…for a regional disc golf promoter!
I’m proud to announce release episode #2 which talks with a course designer, PDGA event winner, as well as some commentary about your tournament morning preparations as well as my rollaway, why you need to get involved with your local club!

Maybe you are a touring pro…..a local competitor….or just golf casually. We all have different passions of the game. Today i got to witness disc golf in a few manners…just in our casual group of 7.
My buddy Al and I got to the park after 3 new friends from NY were already done with 1.5 rds. We got to hole 10 and we told those guys to tee off first. These 3 guys…love the sport….and are your run of the mill amateur golfers….and they took the box and tossed their drives and chuckles and jived until Al took the box. They were quiet and poised and Al pured his drive. I stepped up and laughed off the cheers of “hey, its mrdiscgolf…” I tossed and hit a tree 150 feet out. I laughed.
As the 5 of us meandered up the fairway, we all laughed and partook in some general tomfoolery. As we walked to the next hole after holing out and i commented i’ll earn the box of the next hole. As i stepped up to the box…..the chuckling and comments were zinging and i pured my drive….leaving a mere 8 ft deuce. Everyone one else managed to get 1/2 way down the fairway….and we spent some time looking for a guys disc…a bright orange vector to boot.
While looking, a couple from New Hampshire waited on the box….and after we looked for 5 minutes…we said….why not tee off…and join us. This couple was mid to up 50s….and played completely for leisure. They had starter bags….and just pieced their holes together a handful of throws at a time. As I came to find out…they were headed to Florida to their winter home.
After finishing out hole 18….i handed out some MrDiscGolf minis and shook hands…gave some hugs…and we all left.
While driving home, i said to Al that was unique. The couple from NH…were completely lax…and just enjoyed being out and playing. The 3 guys from NY love the sport…and compete amongst each other….but they only really care about the camaraderie; but they do love celebrating great shots! And then theirs Al and I….we both were talking about blown opportunities….lacing drives….what i would do over….etc. So after Al and I parted ways…..i realized these separations keep people coming back…Al & I…love the competitive factor and love perfecting our game….the 3 guys from NY….they just love being out handing with friends….and the couple from NH….its just for fun….and there’s not much seriousness to it.
Next time you’re out playing a casual round, take a look around…watch people play…it’s really enlightening how people interpret the game and the ways people take to the sport is amazing!

Some good disc golf Karma right there!!!
So on Sunday…i ran the Rt 222 Throwdown C Tier in Lancaster PA and had 80 folks come out. About 20 minutes after the start, two gentlemen walked up the TD central and one asked….are you MrDiscGolf? I knew I recognized this guy because of his distinct headwear. Now everyone associates MrDiscGolf with the tophat, but this gentleman had on a Western Hat…cowboy hat for simplicity.
So after a brief exchange of words, I was talking to none other then World Champ, Pete May! He and Tim Peterson were driving the eastern seaboard promoting their game, Hott Shott, while traveling to Kentucky to the Tim Selinski Memorial event.
Here’s a picture!!
Often times, we’re all too addicted to disc golf and dont want to miss a beat. We all wanna eat/sleep/play disc golf 24/7. As I type this, i’m 4 hours from home…on a family vacation. Sure, many of you are saying to yourself right now, turn off the computer, go enjoy your family! Well, tonight is my time. The MLB home run derby is on…which is also a week off for many players. But for many, they are partaking in the derby, the All Star Game…or other festivities during the week. So they too…aren’t taking their time off.
So what does a vacation or time off mean? For me, i’m not worrying about my day job….im away from home with family…enjoy morning swims…..afternoon cocktails….but ZERO playing of disc golf. However, tonight while watching the Derby…updating pre-reg lists….sending out a quotation for a potential new 9 hole course….and of course…adding to the TALKdg blog.
Moreover, the meaning of vacation is not worrying about the little things in life…because we all know 90% of our time goes into worrying about 10% of the issues. This can go for your disc golf game as well. Do you focus 90% of improving only 10% of your game? Be sure to step back from what your doing, and look at the big picture of your game. You’ll be surprised that sometimes we all worry too much…about something insignificant!
When life gives ya bogies…..just make the next putt. Like disc golf, life is full of holes….each is independent of another. So get through it…and push on! Bang that putt!!!
I got my hands on a new mini by Zing today! It’s the compliment to the Snipe so they can nest together.
It’s really a nice compliment to their minis…and should be a great putting mini based on it’s feel!
What do you do the morning of an event…after you arrived and checked in with the TD? Since I am usually running the event, i’m curious what do you do before the players meeting?
Do you sit around and BS with friends? Do you throw a few holes then putt? Do you meditate?
What’s your morning pregame notion?
Usually starts off with a nice small meal, water, and minor stretching. Followed by deep breathing.
me personally, i try to get everything ready the night before as far as what i need (ie water bottles in the fridge, bag shoes and extra clothes packed), so all i have to do the morning of is get my coffee and im off… when i get to the course i will go play some holes and try to make sure i throw each shot at least 4 or 5 times (ie mid range anny, mid range straight, long range overstable ect…) i typically will save this until i get to a wide open hole (so i dont waste time looking for a shot that goes awry) … after that i will find a basket putt until i feel like i have found my stride…then go BS with the awesome people at the tourney…
also with your throwing arm (big circles…little circles) …and warm up your throwing motion with a towel, this helps get my timing down and the towel give a little resistance so it feels more throw like….
For those golfers playing the Do it for the Dam this weekend. You can find the course map below also…the layout we’re playing.
